5 Reasons Why You Should Do More Lunges

The lunge exercise strengthens the leg muscles, primarily the gluteus maximus, hamstrings, quadriceps, and calves. Here are 5 reasons why you should incorporate them into your program.

1. Great way to build leg endurance and strength
It can be helpful in a lot of things such as running! If you have ever been running you will notice besides the cardio aspect of running your legs get tired. Depending on how far or how fast you run. Doing more lunges can help strengthen them so you could run faster and further.

2. Balance and stability
The single-leg movements when u do lunges activate your stabilizing muscles to develop balance, coordination, and stability. Working one leg at a time causes your body to be less stable, which forces your spine and core to work harder to stay balanced.

3. Improve your flexibility
Lunges boost the flexibility of the hip flexor muscles, which tend to become tight due to the sedentary lifestyle we lead. Doing more lunges could counter act that.

4. Provide muscular symmetry
Performing lunges and other unilateral exercises can increase muscular hypertrophy and strength in a weaker leg. For example when you perform lunges if you have a weaker leg you will notice it while doing a lunge and can work towards strengthening the weaker side. Strengthening the weaker side will bring more of a balance to your body and muscles.

5. Low impact workout you can do anywhere
They are a great and a beneficial workout that do not require any equipment and could be done anywhere! Of course you can mix it up and make it more challenging as well such as doing a burpee lunge combo, jumping lunges, lunges with weights or just stick to the basics and focus on lunges.
