What Are The Benefits Of Negative Reps?
Share
Negative reps also known as eccentric movements are the opposite of concentric movements. It is normally the movement when you are going down on a lift. For example when you are lifting and doing a bicep curl when you are lifting the weights up that is the concentric movement. When the weight is going down that is the negative movement or eccentric movement.

Negative reps benefits include more damage to the muscle. That sounds worst than what it really is so don't worry! When you workout you damage the muscle and once you rest and recover the muscle grows and becomes stronger and bigger. Another benefit is when you focus on negative reps it could have an increase on time on retention. For example when you lift weights when the weights are in the negative portion of the rep or eccentric portion. You are lifting it slower and it will have an increase on time on retention on your lifts.
Have you tried working out focusing on only negative reps? Give it a try sometime and switch it up! Like The Great Arnold Schwarzenegger says "You always want to shock the muscles!" Switch it up a bit from time to time and try something new!
